He’s unpredictable, instinctive, compelling, sophisticated and driven. He loves controversy and has a natural tendency for the unconventional. He is fashion, jewelry and fragrance designer Bijan Pakzad.
Known throughout the world as one of the most colorful and mysterious designers, Bijan carefully arranges every element of his company’s structure and image. Although, some may consider his hands-on approach somewhat controlling, Bijan insists that he is merely a perfectionist.
Quality, elegance and simplicity are three terms that define the Bijan fashion philosophy. As an international authority on style and leader in men’s fashion design for over 30 years, Bijan stands alone with his exquisite designs and unmatched craftsmanship. Whether creating legendary menswear or designing one-of-a-kind accessories and jewelry, Bijan adheres to these three basic trends, which he believes are the key to great style.
Bijan was born in Tehran to a prominent family on April 4, 1944. A gifted student, he attended school in Switzerland and Italy. After graduating, he lived and traveled throughout Europe for over 15 years before settling down in America. A United States citizen, he now lives in Beverly Hills, California.

In 1976, Bijan began establishing his global business in Beverly Hills by designing seasonal collections as well as complete wardrobes and accessories for the most powerful, well heeled men in the World. Heads of state, captains of industry, presidents, kings and emperors are among his clients. Bijan’s now legendary by appointment showroom on Rodeo Drive, a lavish $12 million dollar Mediterranean-style palazzo has been classified as a Beverly Hills landmark.
Menswear, jewelry, accessories, sportswear, fragrances….he does it all. Perhaps the most interesting quality about Bijan is the way he does things. His designs are always executed with the utmost attention to quality, and “Bijan quality” is always approached with precision. He produces everything within thorough specifications. This, more than anything else, separates Bijan from the World which is content with the norm.
Bijan says, “The world said to conform the world said to settle for less the world said compromise and no one will know…so I made my own world!”

The Bijan boutique is an absolute work of art,
COMMENTARY: Fashion icon Bijan Pakzad passed away after suffering a stroke on April 16, 2009. Jimmy Delshad, Beverly Hills mayor announced the news. Bijan was under urgent care for two days at Cedars-Sinai Medial Center in Beverly Hills.
The 67-year-old famous Iranian-American designer was one of the most respected names in fashion and design world. Born in Tehran, Bijan migrated to the United States, and resided in Los Angeles in 1973. His exclusive Bijan Boutique on world famous Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills was established in 1976 and can be visited by “appointment only”. It has been described as “the most expensive store in the world”. Bijan was also known for his cars, among them a Bentley Azure and a Rolls Royce, both colored his signature “Bijan yellow.”
Bijan had dressed big names: US President Barack Obama, former president George W. Bush, former governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, actor Tom Cruise, and actor Sir Anthony Hopkins, to name a few.
I first found out about Bijan while doing some research on women's fashion back in the early 80's when I was a better fashion apparel broker. A very well-known upscale magazine did a story on Bijan, and I was totally impressed by his men's fashion, accessories, sports wear and jewelry designs. Bijan's showroom is truly something out of this world.
The Bijan men's boutique in Beverly Hills is the epitomy of men's fashion snobbery, power and wealth. This is not Neiman-Marcus, customers must make an appointment, and you must have deep pockets. It is not too unusual for a customer to spend upwards of $50,000 in one visit. This leaves out most Twitter members.
I like the Bijan look, it is classic and will wear forever. The quality and attention to detail is unmistakeable Bijan.
Bijan was a man of endless class. I am sorry to hear of his passing. He will be sorely missed.
