Charlie Sheen, and others, are banking on his current media exposure.
The former Two and a Half Men star reportedly signed a deal with concert promoter Live Nation that would have his new catchphrases emblazoned on merchandise, including T-shirts and mugs. Sheen also declared that he wanted $10 million for a book deal and has had several online shows in the past couple of days, including a live Ustream program called Sheen's Korner (since cancelled). Not to mention, Spike’s very own Sheen-inspired animated show, called Charlie Sheen’s Winningest Moments.
But that’s not all. Here’s a list of merchandise the public will be exposed to or now being consumed:
- Infamous: Charlie Sheen comic book: Bluewater Productions announced Tuesday that it will be releasing a biography of the troubled actor this summer, covering Sheen’s life, career and recent behavior, in comic book form. The 32-page comic will track Sheen’s journey of how the actor reached this point in his career. It will also tackle substance abuse and mental health issues. “Doing a book about Charlie Sheen is different from most bio comics in that the news is literally happening as we speak. Who knows what he’s going to say or do next and how will that fit into the context of telling his story,” said author Mark Shapiro.
- Tiger Blood energy drink: Want to taste “tiger blood”? A new energy drink, created by Harco Laboratories, will set you $4 back. “It’s made from 100% passion specifically to make your brain fire in a way that’s not from this particular terrestrial realm,” their website said. “Tiger Blood allows you to use household items, you’re welcome to take more drugs than anyone can survive. Be different, have a different brain, and a different heart. When you feel Tiger Blood in your veins, you’ll realize dying’s for fools and that can’t is the cancer of happen. Period. The end.”
- Tiger's Blood cocktails: According to ABC News, you can order cocktails in restaurants. What's in the cocktail? Simple. It's really just a Bloody Mary with sake. A Chicago bar began serving the drink for $5 a pop. Sean "P. Diddy" Combs took to Twitter to announce his own version of Tiger's Blood: a berry-infused vodka and cranberry juice.
- T-shirts, mugs and anything else you can think of via LiveNation deal: Sheen reportedly inked a deal with the company to create his own line of official merchandise, with his famous catchphrases on shirts, mugs and really, whatever else you can think of. There are reports that Sheen has already put in an order for 50,000 shirts.
- Twitter sponsorships: It was revealed last week that Sheen had signed a deal with Ad.ly, a company that matches people on Twitter to companies looking to spread the word out about their products. His first Twitter sponsorship? Internships.com. The actor signed a deal to post an endorsed message as part of efforts to cash in on his strong presence on Twitter. (He has more than 2 million followers.) THR reported that Sheen could earn $1 million per year through Twitter endorsements.
Hours after he was fired by Warner Bros. Television from Men on Monday, Sheen went to the Live Nation offices in Beverly Hills, where he got on the roof, waved a machete and declared, “I’m free.”
COMMENTARY: Charlie Sheen, in spite of his crazy behaviors, drug use, whoremongering, marriage problems and run-ins with the law, is turning out to be quite an entrepreneur. He is really taking advantage of his new notoriety for better or for worst. CBS officially fired Charlie from their prime-time sitcom "Two And A Half Men", but Charlie Sheen has transformed himself from Charlie Sheen, the Actor, to Charlie Sheen, the Brand.
In a previous blog post dated March 5, 2011 titled, "Actor Charlie Sheen Has 1.8 Million Followers On twitter, Gets The Attention of Social Media Marketing Firm Ad.Ly, In Spite Of Controversies", I mentioned a possible deal with Ad.Ly. That appears to be happening.
As of Saturday, August 6, 2011, @charliesheen has nearly 4.6 million followers on Twitter, and 30,000+ of those fans, including yours truly, have setup a Twitter list so they don't miss any of his regular tweets. Back on March 7, 2011, Sheen has 2.2 million fans and trending on Twitter.
Twitter also makes money off the advertisements that appear on Sheen's Twitter page like the Amazon.com ad promoting his Denise Richard's (his ex-wife) book "The Real Girl Next Door". Notice Charlie's complimental tweet about the book.
According to some estimates, Charlie Sheen gross $7 million from tooks sold for his "Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not An Option" road show and related Sheen branded merchandise. The Official Charlie Sheen online store sells apparel, hats, calendars and accessories emblossomed with his mantra's "Tiger Blood", "Duh, Winning", and "Winning".
Rachel Marie Oberline a.k.a. Bree Olson, a former porn actress and exotic dancer, and live-in girlfriend or "Goddess", dumped Charlie in April. Bree Olson had bigger fish to fry, posing for Playboy, raking in the renumeration and fame that it brings. No problem, Charlie is not lonesome, Brook Mueller, his other Goddess, still lives with Charlie. Here's a nice video of Charlie carousing with his two Goddesses back in March.
I guess it just pays to be Hollywood bad boy, but does his popularity on Twitter have legs? Charlie is no longer trending like he did just after he joined Twitter, but he how many Hollywood actors have 4.6 million fans on Twitter or Facebook. The guy was on every major television and cable news network.
Ashton Kucher will replace Sheen on Two and One Half Men, but no problem. On July 18, 2011, Lionsgate announced that Charlie Sheen will star in its new sitcom Anger Management.
The 45-year-old will play an ex-athlete, with a temper problem of his own, who counsels criminal defendants regarding the management of their anger issues. Charlie’s television character will be modeled after the Jack Nicolson character in the big screen version of Anger Management, a Joe Roth-produced film.
The actor’s manager Mark Berg said:
“Charlie is excited about going back to work and looks forward to playing a different character other than Charlie Harper. I can guarantee you that Charlie will not be wearing a bowling shirt on the new show.”
Way to go Charlie. Look forward to watching your new show.

Those who have been successful at realizing the potential of these tools have already gained immensely from it. Fan-pages and groups allow the company to converse directly with their target market and involve them with all the company activities.
