Yeah Facebook is banned in China, twitter and youtube are also banned.
You can use a VPN to connect but it's a pain and you have to shop around for a free one.
If you are only here for a short while I'd say just do without it until you get home.

I heard that if there's no Facebook in China, but there's a Chinese website called: QQ网, which it's also a social network.
The website is: qzone.qq.com
