In a recent dream an idea came to me: Wouldn't it be really bold and outrageously funny to use an Apple iPad like a frisbee? Just the idea of using an iPad like frisbee could start a whole new trend or a competitive sport that Steve Jobs never would've imagined for his "magical" device.
I am really serious about this idea, and would like to go viral, proposing an iPad Throwing World Championship. We could start the first iPad World Throwing Championship event here in the San Francisco Bay Area, inviting iPad owners to participate in qualifying rounds that would eventually lead to semi-final rounds where the two best iPad throwers would compete for the iPad Throwing World Champion.
In order to induce iPad owners to participate, I think prizes should be awarded. This will insure the broadest possible participation. This would also be a great opportunity for sponsor's to become involved, create a lot of buzz, promote their brands and help us financially by contributing prizes and cash awards. It would be really cool if Steve Jobs from Apple could help by furnishing the iPads, but I don't expect this to happen. Hopefully, iPad owners will donate their iPad, working or not, to be used in the event. I would be willing to pay up to $50.00 for a used iPad.
Here's a great example of an iPad that got run over by several cars before meetings its death. I would not mind getting my hands on several these:
In order to get started, I would like to organize a committee to assist me in developing goals and objectives, establishing competition rules, developing marketing and promotional strategies, and assist raising capital and attracting sponsorships to make the iPad World Throwing Championship a reality.
With the above in mind, I am recruiting individuals who would volunteer their time, energy, ideas and possess the necessary business expertise--event planning, marketing, operations, financing and sponsorships-- that will be needed to take this project from ideation to launch and make this event happen by the Spring/Summer of 2011.
I did some online research and I only found one individual (see YouTube video below) who has actually used an iPad like a frisbee and I was totally impressed.
As far as I know, there is no organized iPad throwing sporting clubs or even an iPad throwing championship. However, I discovered that there is a Mobile Phone World Throwing Championship that is a serious event and held in Europe. Here's a YouTube video clip is below:
The iPad is now being distributed globally, so I envision that some day that there will be continental qualifying rounds and regional playoffs and the finalist's would travel to the U.S. to compete in the iPad World Throwing Championship final in Silicon Valley. Exact location to be determined.
If you have further questions, or would like to volunteer your services, please contact me at your earliest convenience. Let's go people. I want to go viral.

Catherine, thanks for your post. Seriously though, an iPad World Throwing Championship is long overdue. iPad owners would attend like lemmings going over a cliff. They would love it.
